Helias Catholic celebrates 2024-25 student achievements

Helias Catholic High School recognized junior, sophomore and freshman students for their academic performance, service and achievements during the 2024-25 school year at a ceremony April 23.
Senior students will receive awards at a ceremony following the Baccalaureate Mass on May 8.
Sixteen students received the Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger Service Award for 100 or more hours of community service during the 2024-25 school year:
- Juniors Blake Bode, Ruth Cassmeyer, Alex Chiles, Alex Lock, Aleya Perkins and Ava Smith-Vandergriff.
- Sophomores Meredith Buker, VonKingston Forck, Talia Hinton, Camryn Kempker, Leah Koetting, Olivia Luebbering, Jenna Rembecki and Abigail Sneller.
- Freshmen Claire Stegeman and Jeshua Suresh.
Sophomore Olivia Luebbering received the Dr. Richard Skain Memorial Award, given to a sophomore student who has demonstrated excellent character and scholarship.
Sophomore Sofia Doolittle received the Marie P. Skain Memorial Award, given to a sophomore student who has demonstrated excellent character and scholarship.
Juniors Logan Hillman and Claire Morris received the Jayne and Norb Luebbering Memorial Award, given to a junior boy and girl who have outstanding qualities of loyalty, character and participation in school activities.
Freshmen Adam Sissom and Norah Wolters received the Patricia Skain Memorial Award, given based on scholarship, character and service to Helias Catholic.
Sophomore Lillian Peters received the Bert Koester Memorial Award, given to a sophomore living in Cole County who has shown exemplary effort, initiative and character.
Freshmen Sam Ashcroft and Sierra Wilson received the Helen and Mary Skain Award, given to a freshman boy and girl based on scholarship, character and service to Helias Catholic.
Six students received the Triple H Award for receiving three varsity letters in a single school year: juniors Brady Fann, Logan Hillman and Ben Holee; and sophomores Brianna Brenneke, Zyan Knollmeyer and Daniel Morris.
Juniors Logan Hillman and Jayli Howell received the Carl M. Vogel Award, given to a junior boy and girl who have participated in athletics and plan to continue during their senior year. Selection is made by the school’s coaching staff on the basis of total contribution to the athletic program.
Junior Olivia Monnig, sophomore Paige Loethen and freshman Josh Quinones received the Partners in Education Outstanding Youth Leadership Award, which recognizes students who display leadership qualities such as honesty, integrity, dependability, respectfulness and compassion.
Seven juniors were selected to represent Helias Catholic or serve as alternates for Missouri Girls State: Liza Boyer, Shannen Dollar, Ruby Rockers, Allison Roling, Emily Roling, Anna Stokes and Chloe Till.
Four juniors were selected to represent Helias Catholic at Missouri Boys State based on character, leadership, scholarship, service and loyalty: Max Borgmeyer, Brett Brooks, Quinton Stafford and Connor Wekenborg.
Twelve juniors received the Bonnot and Hemmel Scholarship, given to the highest-ranking scholastic juniors. Each of these students has a 4.0 GPA: Grace Bailes, Daelyn Crisostomo, Shannen Dollar, Brady Fann, Lauren Forbis, Josie Francka, Stephen Kummer, Elise Martin, Olivia Monnig, Claire Morris, Linley Pleus and Claire Walters.
Ten students have received honors based on their outstanding performance on the National Latin Exams:
- Cum Laude: Margaux Browning, Sofia Doolittle, Talia Hinton and Ryan McKenzie.
- Magna Cum Laude: Tobyas Godwin, Lillian Peters and Clara Underwood.
- Maxima Cum Laude: Lourdes Matanane, Carson Hughes and Corynn Frank.
The following Helias Catholic underclassmen received recognition at the Nichols Career Center Award Ceremony on April 29:
- Junior Cadyn Howell earned a second-place medal in the District Contest for Welding and was a second-place SkillsUSA state winner in Welding Technical Information.
- Junior Cora Steinlage earned the Blowout Boss Award in Cosmetology.
