Rec Basketball Preseason Outlook

By Noah Doolittle
January brings many new things: the second semester, a new calendar year, a midnight kiss — and, most importantly for many Helias Catholic students, the High School Hoops basketball league at The Linc. Helias Catholic students have been involved in this league for many years now, and it is a source of pride as well as banter for those who play.
Gavin Wilson (12) talked about his team, Lunch Bros Elite, winning the league last year and their hopes to repeat, as well as the new challenges they will face this year.
“Pretty excited to come back and make another staple on the year coming off a league championship last year. Looking at our schedule, there are a lot of new junior teams, but there is not really any competition this year,” Wilson said.
While Lunch Bros Elite is coming off the championship, another team, All in Academy, is looking to find a little more success in the league this year. Luke Galbraith (12) is in his second year with the team, and he is optimistic when looking forward to this season.
“We go to the Y, we play pickup so we got our synergy working together now, and I've been in the lab working on my handles,” Galbraith said.
“We believe we have real contention in this league. We only had one loss last year, so I think we got it this year.”
There will be a total of 10 teams competing in the 11th/12th grade league this year including both Lunch Bros Elite and All In Academy, all battling to the final whistle. In the end, though, only time will tell who will take home that highly coveted league championship.
