Helias Catholic to stage ‘Freaky Friday’ as 2026 spring musical

Helias Catholic High School students will present Freaky Friday as the school’s annual spring musical March 13-15, 2026, at the Miller Performing Arts Center in Jefferson City.
The new musical Freaky Friday, based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic update on an American classic with a contemporary, up-tempo score that will allow Helias Catholic’s musical talent to shine.
When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again, according to the show’s synopsis. By spending a day in each other's shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another's struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the love and respect that bond a mother and daughter.
Amy Pringer will serve as director and musical director, making Freaky Friday the ninth musical production she has led for Helias Catholic High School.
“We’re excited to welcome some seventh- and eighth-grade students to the cast next year—a tradition that has provided a great mentoring opportunity for our high school performers in the past,” Pringer said. “Having grown up watching Disney movies, I’m especially thrilled to see this beloved story come to life as a musical.”
Helias Catholic President Ron Vossen will continue building on his 40-plus years of involvement with the spring musical as production manager.
Freaky Friday is scheduled to be the last Helias Catholic production to be performed at the Miller Performing Arts Center.
“We’re grateful for the many years we’ve been able to perform at the Miller Center and looking forward to having our own permanent home for theater and performing arts when Helias Catholic’s on-campus performing arts center is complete in time for the 2027 spring musical,” Vossen said.
Helias Catholic’s spring musical is a long-running tradition that regularly involves up to 100 students and community members both on stage and behind the scenes for lights, sound, costumes, choreography and more. Recent years’ musical productions have included “West Side Story,” “The Addams Family,” “Anastasia,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Footloose.”
Auditions for Helias Catholic’s production of “Freaky Friday” will be held in fall and winter 2025. Workshop and audition details will be published on the Helias Catholic spring musical website.
